We’re one day away from December 18, the Japanese release date of FINAL FANTASY! That means it’s been 33 years since FINAL FANTASY got its start, so we’d like to introduce some common elements of FF series games that first appeared in FINAL FANTASY, also known as FFI.
Crystals
In FFI, there exist large crystals which embody four elements. These elements - earth, fire, water and wind – once brought balance and prosperity to the world. However, powerful monsters called the Four Fiends have intercepted the power of the crystals, threatening to engulf the world in darkness.
Warriors of Light
When the world is plunged into darkness, it is foretold that four youths will appear carrying crystals once gleaming with light. These are FFI’s Warriors of Light, and appear they do! After saving Princess Sarah of Cornelia from the evil clutches of Garland, they set out on a journey to restore light to the crystals and return peace to the world.
Jobs/Classes
And let’s not forget the jobs in FFI! At the game’s start, the player gets to choose which of six jobs each Warrior of Light will be granted, the options including warrior, thief, monk and a few types of mage. Later on, performing a certain set of tasks will allow the party to undergo a class change that makes them even more powerful!
Airship
The airship in FFI is buried in a certain place on the overworld map, and can only be reached by using an item called the levistone. Gaining access to the airship opens up the world, allowing not only further progression in the story, but also the freedom to revisit previous areas!
Why not play FINAL FANTASY I and experience the roots of FINAL FANTASY on this anniversary of its creation?
